In a nutshell: Key takeaways
Sweating During Carnival Time
This text doesn't just show the jolly side of Carnival; it also highlights the physical challenge that comes with constantly moving between warm indoor spaces and the chilly outdoors.
Mardi Gras, Carnival without the Sweat during the Festive Season
The festive season kicks off on the 11th of November, but January and February are prime time for Carnival and Mardi Gras celebrations. There are lots of regional differences, but one thing they all have in common – we dress up in colourful costumes and celebrate together before Lent.
Carnival has been celebrated for centuries. In many regions, the weeks leading up to Lent are a time for letting loose and having fun. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, marking the end of the preceding Carnival festivities. Strongholds of Carnival are found in the Rhineland (Cologne, Düsseldorf, etc.) and in the south, the Alemannic-Swabian Fastnacht. We don bright, fun costumes and party in large halls or at the parades outdoors. Even though the temperatures at the start of the year aren't that high, you can quickly get sweaty in the costumes and amongst large crowds. With these tips, you can enjoy the festive season carefree, without sweat patches or body odour.
Tips to Combat Sweat in Costume
A great costume is key for Carnival. But often, these costumes are made from synthetic fabrics, which can make you sweat quite a bit at a party. This inevitably leads to sweat patches and unpleasant body odour. Once sweat gets into the costume, even the best deodorant can't cope. To prevent this problem from the outset, you can apply an antiperspirant to the areas of your body where you sweat a lot, for example, under your arms, on your back, on your stomach, in the crooks of your knees, and thus reduce sweat production.
An antiperspirant needs a lead time of 2-4 days to achieve the desired effect. We recommend everdry Antiperspirant Body Roll-On for different areas of the body. Apply this in the evening to clean, dry, and intact skin where you want to reduce sweating. The antiperspirant temporarily narrows the sweat pores, thus producing less sweat. This effect occurs after 2-4 applications, depending on individual sweating behaviour. With this little preparation, you'll be perfectly set for a sweat-free Carnival or Mardi Gras party.
For those who sweat a lot and want to be extra sure, we recommend a functional undershirt with built-in underarm pads. MANJANA® functional undershirts can be worn almost invisibly under clothing or a costume, ensuring that sweat is absorbed directly where it occurs. This gives sweat patches no chance, and your outfit stays perfect.
Carnival Indoors & Outdoors without Sweat Patches and Body Odour
Carnival or Mardi Gras isn't just celebrated indoors; it also takes place outdoors at parades or when moving from one venue to another. This means you're constantly exposed to significant temperature fluctuations, which can really mess with your body. Often, a warm-cold change leads to increased sweat production, and sweat patches are inevitable. To avoid freezing outside and sweating too much in heated rooms, we recommend special functional clothing. You can easily wear this under your regular clothes, and thanks to its breathable properties, you won't freeze outside because the heat is retained, and you won't sweat too much inside because the sweat is wicked away, thus optimally regulating your body temperature. You can also find functional clothing in various styles in the everdry online shop.
Another way to prevent sweat patches and body odour in your costume is with stick-on underarm pads. These can be discreetly and invisibly stuck into your costume and absorb sweat directly. The skin stays dry, inhibiting the growth of bacteria. This prevents unpleasant body odour. Another advantage is that the underarm pads are very thin and fit into any bag, so you can easily change the pads in between.
Sweat-Free, Hygienic Hands in the Carnival Crowds
During Carnival and Mardi Gras, we often meet old acquaintances, colleagues, or new people and shake their hands or give them a hug. Sweaty hands are the last thing you want in this situation. For these cases, everdry Antiperspirant Hands Wipes can be used. Thanks to their instant effect, the hand wipes work immediately, leaving your hands dry and sweat-free. Simply rub your clean, dry hands with an everdry Hands Wipe, and you can greet other revellers with dry hands. You can also find more information on sweat-free hands in our guide: Sweating Hands.
The Carnival season is also peak time for colds, so it's advisable to wash your hands frequently when out and about or occasionally clean them with an antibacterial hand sanitiser gel. With everdry Antibacterial Hand Sanitiser Gel, you can get fresh, cared-for, and hygienic hands in no time – without soap, water, or a towel. Perfect for on the go!
